- In the beginning of the story, Esperanza does not like the house she lives it. She wants a bigger, nicer house that she has always dreamed of.
- Esperanza had a lot of trouble with keeping her friends. First from leaving the town that she had made a lot, and most of her friends moving away from Mango Street.
- Esperanza was out with Sally one night in the junkyard playing. Guys took Sally's car keys, and they left Esperanza alone. A guy came to the place she was at and raped her.
- The ending of The House on Mango Street is basically about how Esperanza is all grown up, if she ever gets the nerves to leave Mango Street she will for sure have to come back and help the women that helped her grow into the person she is today.
