Themes

The theme that I got most from this book was self-definition. Throughout this book Esperanza tries to find out the person she really is. Many other women and friends help her throughout her problems. Esperanza's name is a big factor as who she really is. In Spanish it means "hope" but she doesn't believe that, she thinks it means sadness. Finding the person you really are is life changing, and can effect your whole life.
